Dance performance and artist talk

EUTOPIA 2017 presents together with MUDA AFRICA and BLACK BOW DANCE COMPANY the dance performance THE CHAIR.

Definition of CHAIR

  1. a seat typically having four legs and a back for one person
  2. an official seat or position of authority

The chair symbolizes authority and power. The game of politics concerns the struggle for power – the struggle for the chair. ‘Winning’ the chair is hard work and the same is sitting in the chair.

THE CHAIR is a dance performance centered on ‘the chair’ with all its different meanings. In the performance, you will experience five Tanzanian dancers in a rare combination of break dance, contemporary dance, tricks and acrobatics. Samwel Hokororo will be playing drums during the performance accompanying the dance performance.

THE CHAIR consits of three pieces – combined in one performance:

  1. The Chair: Group piece, with the overall themes power and desire. This work mixes acrobatics, hip-hop and African fusion.
  2. The Water:  Solo piece, with point of origin in lack of water combining African fusion and contemporary dance.
  3. The Bird: Duet, with starting point in flying like a bird and freedom as the overall theme. Acrobatics and African fusion are mixed in this duet.

PERFORMERS:
MUSSA SELEMANI, HAMADI ISSA, FRANK RAMON, WAZIRI ZUBERY & SALUM KABASSSA

MUSIC:
